STUDIO POLICIES AND GUIDELINES 2025

TEACHING GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • For every student to enjoy playing the flute and coming to their lessons.

  • For students to become good musicians.

  • To play with beautiful tone and correct technique.

  • To establish effective practice habits so that regular progress is achieved.

  • To learn a variety of solo and ensemble repertoire.

  • For music to become an important part of students’ lives.

  • To develop confidence and skills that will help students succeed in other areas of their lives.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrive promptly at all lessons.

  • Bring instrument, music and notebook to all lessons.

  • Prepare diligently for every lesson by practising every day (short and often is better than one or two long practice sessions per week).

  • Listen to recordings of current pieces every day.

  • Complete all assigned work each week.

  • Complete practice charts as requested.

  • Organise rehearsals with accompanists for exams, assessments, competitions as required.

  • Participate in ensembles, concerts, competitions as recommended.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support your child in their musical endeavours.

  • Attend lessons wherever possible so that you can help at home.

  • Help students find time to practice every day.

  • Purchase music as required.

  • Provide a supportive practice environment that is free from interruptions.

  • Provide a music stand for home practice.

  • Help students to find and listen to recordings provided by their teacher.

  • Communicate any concerns to the teacher regarding the student, lesson content, practice or progress.

  • Encourage regular lesson attendance, group lesson attendance, home practice and performance.

  • Notify the teacher as early as possible if you can’t attend a scheduled lesson.

TEACHER EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide each student with the personal attention and respect to develop as a musician.

  • To guide each student to a greater understanding and enjoyment of a range of musical styles.

  • To provide short and long term goals that will help each student reach their full potential.

  • To provide each student with a balanced program of theory, technique and repertoire to develop as a well rounded musician.

  • Provide varied opportunities for learning.

TUITION FEES

  • Tuition fees for individual lessons cover the cost not only of the contact during lesson time, but also the additional services and costs associated with running a studio. These include insurance, recording equipment, website subscriptions, learning materials, administrative tasks, recordings, venue hire. 

  • Tuition fees will be invoiced each term. 

  • I am registered as a Creative Kids provider. Let me know if you would like to redeem a voucher and I will update your invoice. 

  • Please advise before the start of each term if you will be absent for any part of the term. 

ATTENDANCE

  • Students are expected to attend all scheduled lessons. 

  • If students students know they will be away during the term, they must tell me before the start of term and before the invoices have been sent out. 

  • Frequent failure to attend lessons may result in termination of lessons. 

ABSENCE FROM LESSONS

  • Each student’s lesson time and day is reserved solely for them. 

  • Lessons will not be refunded and no make-up lesson will be available where the student fails to give 48 hours notice of an absence. With notice, lessons can be re-scheduled at a mutually convenient time, credited to the following term, or refunded. 

  • If it is necessary for me to cancel a lesson, it will be made up at a mutually convenient time, credited to the following term, or refunded. 

GROUP LESSONS

  • Group lessons will be held around three times per term, with times and dates communicated before the start of each term.

  • It is expected that every student will attend each group lesson. 

  • The fee for group lessons will be included on your invoice each term. 

CONCERTS

  • It is expected that all students and families will make every effort to attend and be part of any studio concerts during the year. 

IMPORTANT

  • Failure to abide by the policies may result in termination of lessons.
